Isaac Blessing Jacob. Gerbrand van den Eeckhout, 1642.
The scene is one of the most morally complex in the entire biblical narrative: a father’s blessing, a disguise, a stolen inheritance. And yet — the text insists — the blessing holds. God’s purposes work through human imperfection. Amnon Moalem’s rendering in carved wood is richly detailed and decorated, it strips the scene of any distraction, allowing the figures and the moment between them to carry the full weight of the encounter.
