The New Testament Series

Twelve monumental works, carved wood, gold and metallic leaves, and cast-epoxy, depicting the defining moments of the New Testament. After Leonardo da Vinci and Gustave Doré.

Where Faith

Becomes Form

The New Testament Series is the most ambitious body of work Amnon Moalem has undertaken. Twelve monumental artworks, some exceeding two meters in both height and width, bring to life the most recognized and revered scenes of the Christian faith in carved wood, hand-applied gold and metallic leaves, and cast-epoxy.

Several works in the series enter into explicit dialogue with the Western artistic canon. The Last Supper, created twice, in two distinct material treatments, draws from Gustave Doré’s and Leonardo da Vinci’s definitive compositions, reimagined at a scale that the originals themselves could not achieve. Other works engage with Gustave Doré’s intimate biblical scenes, each reinterpreted in three dimensions, in materials that speak of permanence and reverence.

Every work in this series is an original, signed piece. No editions exist. No reproduction will ever capture what stands in front of the work itself.
